On October 23rd, 2000, just over two days after his birth, we noticed something was wrong with Quinn. His breathing was fast and labored, and he wouldn't latch on to feed. He'd been crying constantly - we thought from hunger. Thinking he was just maybe dehydrated from not feeding, our doula, Judy, advised us to take him to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. We did, and upon arrival, Patty, a nurse waiting for him, took him right upstairs to the Neonatal ICU, where we found out he had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a congenital heart defect. So our next month of his little life would be spent in the hospital praying first for his candidacy for the Norwood surgery, his only hope, and then for his recovery and survival. Read the whole story here.

Here's Mommy holding her beautiful Quinn for the first time since we got to the hospital. It made us all so happy!

And here's the whole happy family, so proud of our little miracle baby. He's fast asleep, so comfortable in mommy's arms.
