In April 2001, when Quinn was 6 months old, we took him in to get a G-tube to replace his NG tube. We realized that his eating issues were long-term and had had enough of the NG tube and the troubles it caused - i.e. the breakdown of his face from the tape, the discomfort and pain of having a tube up his nose and down his throat all the time, the reflux. The G-tube goes directly into his stomach and will allow him comfort when eating by mouth. The doctor also did a surgery called a Nissen-fundoplacation to fix Quinn's reflux. There he basically takes a portion of the top of Quinn's stomach and wraps it around the esophagus and stitches it to itself to form a false valve that keeps the food in his stomach. |
