In April 2001, when Quinn was 6 months old, we took him in to get a G-tube to replace his NG tube. We realized that his eating issues were long-term and had had enough of the NG tube and the troubles it caused - i.e. the breakdown of his face from the tape, the discomfort and pain of having a tube up his nose and down his throat all the time, the reflux. The G-tube goes directly into his stomach and will allow him comfort when eating by mouth. The doctor also did a surgery called a Nissen-fundoplacation to fix Quinn's reflux. There he basically takes a portion of the top of Quinn's stomach and wraps it around the esophagus and stitches it to itself to form a false valve that keeps the food in his stomach.

Quinn playing on his tummy while he still can - once he gets the G-tube it will be at least 6 weeks before he can do this again. See how we had to tape up his face just to keep the NG tube on it? Horrible.

Getting ready to go to the hospital for his G-tube. This is the last we'll ever see of that nasty NG tube - yay! We had to keep a sock on his hand to keep him from pulling the NG tube.

Quinn after the surgery of having the G-tube placed. See the cup on the end of the tube? That was to catch any drainage of blood that might occur. Ick! Look at his poor little face, all broken down and yeasty from that darn tape. Let the healing begin!
