On October 23rd, 2000, just over two days after his birth, we noticed something was wrong with Quinn. His breathing was fast and labored, and he wouldn't latch on to feed. He'd been crying constantly - we thought from hunger. Thinking he was just maybe dehydrated from not feeding, our doula, Judy, advised us to take him to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. We did, and upon arrival, Patty, a nurse waiting for him, took him right upstairs to the Neonatal ICU, where we found out he had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a congenital heart defect. So our next month of his little life would be spent in the hospital praying first for his candidacy for the Norwood surgery, his only hope, and then for his recovery and survival. Read the whole story here.

This is my Mighty Quinn sleeping in the hospital, trying to make himself well enough to be ready for surgery. Our sweet little Moon Man.

Mommy and her little baby Quinn - we spent 12 hours a day by his bedside.

Daddy and his Moon Man, we're so proud of him.

Quinn had a breakdown of his little bottom from all the lasix, so we turned him on his tummy, which he really liked, and put a little air hose on his bottom to dry out the sore. He slept so well when he was on his little tummy.
