Okay, remember how Kiernen won’t take a bath? And how every time we DO give him a bath, he screams and freaks out? And how we don’t try and bathe him very often because it’s just too much trauma for all of us? Well, now you do, right?

The other night - two nights ago to be exact, which would be Sunday night, Kiernen ASKED to take a bath.

Now, he has done this before - also recently - and nothing came of it, so I didn’t really expect anything to come of it. I asked him, “Do you really want to take a bath?”

He said, “Yes. With my rubber ducky.”

    I blinked.

I waited a minute and asked again, “DO you really want to take a bath?”

I really didn’t want to go through all of the rigamarole of running a bath and getting undressed is he wasn’t serious.

    He paused, “No,” he said.

I was curious, so I asked a third time a couple of minutes later.

“Do you want to take a bath?”

He thought for a minute. “Yes,” he answered.

So I got up and ran him a bath, making sure to ask what temperature he’d like the water to be so as to make it just to his specifications. I got in and waited, and he actually got undressed. And THEN! THEN he actually got INTO the bathtub with me and SAT IN THE WATER.

Now, previous to this even when we DID do a bath with him, he would NOT sit in the water - he always sat on my lap. So for him to actually sit IN the water - HUGE!

And THEN! THEN he actually PLAYED in the water. He did not cry. He did not scream. He PLAYED with his rubber duck and the cup and the starfish we have in there. He experimented with dumping the water over things, and then he dumped the water over his own head!

Also note: he HATES having his hair washed. This is his least favourite thing about bathing, and we always save it for last because he freaks out the most about having his hair washed. And the pouring of water over his head (not his face, just his head tipped back) brings about the most screaming and freaking out. So for him to actually pour water over his own head! Momentous!

It was amazing. And do you know what is happening in the other room right now as I type? He has just gotten out of the bath AGAIN, and is getting dressed and ready for bed.

TWO baths in ONE week! And BOTH at his request!

    Happy Holidays to us, indeed!

Now I want to go and get him bath toys, because he will actually use them! This is just amazing.

Wow, cool! I didn’t realize he was still freaked out about tubs, but glad to hear he’s enjoying them now. We actually pretty much never wash Chris’ hair — I can’t remember the last time we did — because he hates it so and because it doesn’t seem to get it dirty. Maybe someday he won’t get so freaked out about that.
Anyway, glad things have changed. Fetisvus miracle?
